Reading Journal : Cat Person - Kristen Roupenian
Rating : 8/10
<Cat Person> was unlike any other short story I've ever read. While this could be due to me reading only classical novellas and short stories, even considering that fact it was a impressive. The story is about a young woman who flirts with a regular customer at her workplace via messages. She secures a date out with him, and is surprised to find that he isn't as attractive in person or in bed. After the disastrous date, she finds herself not responding to his messages anymore, and their relationship comes to an explosive end. The story depicts communication and the formation of relationships between people in modern society. We communicate and befriend each other on the Internet, and the author is trying to say that this kind of relationship cannot last long, and isn't deep enough to hold. For me, I know a friend who met his girlfriend in a long-distance relationship, and never met her in person until she got bored and broke up with him. Looking back at this memory helped me relate in person with the story's topic.
